PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE MONTH – AUGUST 2024 Winners

Trained as an engineer, I love the material and its rendering. Photography is a way for me to get into the material and so I do macro photography. Macro photography transports us to a miniature universe, where every detail takes on a whole new dimension. I took a series of photos on CDs (Compact Discs), playing with the sun’s rays reflected in them. The result is a photograph that allows the viewer to escape and imagine their own worlds. Like an abstract painting that the viewer’s gaze appropriates. Photographers are alchemists who reveal the hidden beauty of these materials, inviting us to see and appreciate them from a new perspective. I don’t edit my photos on purpose so as not to distort the fleeting moment of taking a photo.

Xianjun Liu . China

My name is Xianjun Liu and I am currently a photographer based in London currently, I was born in China, and my floating growing experience from different cities to different countries, and my gay identity in different complex contexts, all inspire me to view this world in different perspectives and express how I feel. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from The Glasgow School of Art, with all my motivation and interest, I began my freelancing photography career. My artworks have been exhibited in different galleries all over the world, such as the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh, the Holy Art Gallery in London, and The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in China. I love depicting my ideas and imagination within my artwork and working with others to create one-of-a-kind artwork. In my free time, I like to explore different art forms and write some poems.
